Having read various reviews on here, I decided to make a booking for a Saturday night and was very glad that I did.My party was 6 in total and its fair to say we all enjoyed it.Greeting on arrival was warm, friendly but professional and we got quickly sat at the table and drinks and food menu's presented.Great selection of wines and beers and staff knowledgeable on the wines and can advise if needed.Great menu and an even better selection on the specials and I think we fell lucky as the main special was superb.The lamb kofta's (special) was good but not great and could have been slightly bigger for the cost (£7) but was well cooked, thought through and warm. Veg, new potatoes and the mustard cream just added a little something else and was a great dish.On the specials board was a slow braised beef, with creamy mash and was the stand out dish. Good toilets.All the staff were very good.
Everything was beautifully presented and the meals cooked to perfection. Allows dogs downstairs in the bar area only. First time we came was for lunch and we had a sharing platter and Pimms. It was a really unpretentious place, with food that was great! MS for sure♥. Highly recommended. Sunny, quiet, dog friendly inside and out. The Fulling Mill is our favourite place to dine in Ambleside. Staff were friendly and attentive, engaging but also allowing time to eat without making us feel rushed, even though we were almost the last to leave at the end of the evening. Probably one of the nicest restaurants I’ve ever eaten in on four continents ...Well done, Neil Farrell and team. We were not disappointed! Sat outside both times. Owner Neil Farrell had a head chef who couldn't boil an egg, a menu with more than 100 dishes and a debt so large he was being chased by collectors. We had Cajun chicken and smoked salmon starters followed by beef stroganoff and seabass. The location, of course, is magical — the concerted fulling milk, with the combination of all the glass windows and the exposed old mill machinery, is very special. The chips where excellent and the jus very good. We chose this for our last night based on previous reviews and were not disappointed. The chicken liver parfait was nice and home cooked with a soft brioche bun underneath. The two people serving were very pleasant & attentive & certainly made us feel very welcome. We first visited the restaurant some 20 years ago (when it was the Glass House) and last night was both a wonderful night out and a bit of a trip down memory lane (we made a point of dining here most years, but have been in Canada for the last six). All the other food and drinks were marvellous too. The restaurant is still owned and operated by Neil Farrell. Zoom in to see updated info. Wild mushrooms where excellent and really added an earthy flavour that you just don't get from a farmed mushroom.The chicken skewers where very good and still moist with a great sear and nicely presented with rice and salad.I had the Tournedos Rossini which is the most costly item on the menu and in my opinion it was slightly over priced and £20 (not £25) would have been a fairer price.Saying that the beef was very good quality and cooked exactly to a medium rare.
