I’ve just watched him in A view from a Hill & Number 13 and he was brilliant in both. ( I know, lots of reasons for that, but it did.) Not to the extent of Nigel Bruce of course, but still a little lost in the woods at times. Edward Hardwicke did a very fine job but Burke had the benefit of starting the Granada TV series and setting the standard. I just bought the UK version of the complete set, which has no extras while the US version does.

He has also appeared in MI-5, Midsomer Murders, Dalziel and Pascoe, Inspector Lynley Mysteries (with his son), Tales of Sherwood Forest and the list goes on.

I personally preferred Burke’s younger Watson to Hardwicke’s. David Burke is the best of all the Dr. Watsons.
There were other Watson’s but when you get down to it the two best were David Burke and Edward Hardwicke. I liked him better as he turned it into a 'good old boy team' sort of friendship. Lovely man!

I just ordered the Complete Grenada Series Box Set from Amazon. Hence, he got replaced by Edward Hardwicke by the end of the first season.
