Has some light humor and Lola Lane is likable, but this feels like a generic brand version of Torchy Blane. Honestly, I missed Glenda & Barton too much to enjoy this one 100%, but Torchy Blane in Panama (1938) can definitely be entertaining. On board, she ignores Steve and talks to all the Leopards, trying to identify the thief. Tom Kennedy saves it for me, though. Torchy has some great fashions but other than that the movie is pretty unremarkable. Torchy sees him leave and follows him after leaving a note for Steve explaining the situation. Torchy was loosely based on Kennedy. Taking over for Barton MacLane, Paul Kelly starts out too serious, with his character’s playful jousting with Torchy sounding ominous. But is she right as usual or has her nose for news mislead her this time and taken them all on a wild goose chase? Paul Kelly and Larry Williams are good performers, but the material hampers their efforts and in the end, the Torchy scenes prove to be the best elements of this one. The character work is off, the romance doesn't work, and the movie just isn't as much fun as the previous four volumes.
