Allow me to explain my reasoning. But I will just give a few thoughts. Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog often ask me why I make so many references to ARGs (Alternate Reality Games) and feature tie-ins to some of them in my blog posts. The video below features the ultimate example of this niche artform. Nick mentioned in his looking back video that he has felt creatively drained recently. But let me put another theory out there. So, when Jack Torrance makes a video, with the admittedly generic title of "Find Me", and when Nick then proceeds to take that message as Jack wanting Nick to come down to Austin to find him, I find it hard to believe that it wasn't pre-planned in some manner, and it's difficult to think that Nick would just insert himself as a 'Jay from Marble Hornets' type character and think that was something the creator would be okay with.
To put it bluntly, this is a glorified TV-esque show.
Is he just investigating like he's been saying, or is he in direct correspondence with the person behind the game? The only defining attributes that are touched on in the novel is Jack’s longer hair, and reddish blonde color. As always, my hat’s off to Night Mind, who is in my opinion the best internet detective when it comes to horror ARGs. There's been a lot of talk both on here and the other Night Mind related outlets regarding whether or not Nick is truly just another player in the game of Jack Torrance, or if he's somehow involved behind the scenes of the game. We'll have to see where it goes. I just don't enjoy these unedited dumps of content that don't really say much because they lack the depth of his other content. I honestly agree with you. It's nothing new for Nick to call ARGs on their bluffs. The effort that some creators put into building their world and the effort taken by their audience to solve the ARG’s mysteries make the experience so interactive it’s fascinating to watch unfold … when they’re done well. He has been shown to be purposefully hiding evidence and clues from us, and its starting to hurt the credibility of his claim. It feels like they're ripping a name out of a much better horror story in order to get attention. The Jack Torrance ARG, and specifically how Nick himself, as well as his viewers, ended up becoming integral parts of the experience.

Nick is a very talented writer, assuming he does his scripts himself. Now, is Nick being involved with Jack Torrance, and it being planned a bad thing? It's so out of character for Nick. Nick really isn't known for doing stuff like this. It’s fun to watch Nick solve clues and find things, but I wish we were more involved than we are. And Nick always goes head first into investigating things and with this one there was a clear place to check out. So when I say that it is his ARG, I mean that his big project that he talked about is rather his collaboration with Jack Torrance's creator, reviving and revitalizing the series. Jack is the husband of Wendy Torrance, the father of Danny Torrance and Lucy Stone, and the grandfather of Abra Stone; he was an author and former teacher, who accepts a position as winter caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in Colorado, so he has an opportunity to finish his book. He has wavy dark blonde hair. Jack appears in the novel Doctor Sleep, in which his son Danny (now known as Dan) discovers that he has a half-sister named Lucy, and a niece named Abra who has similar abilities to him, only more powerful. Of course I might be wrong, but I think that he really wants to take part of this, getting involved in an ARG as an important character, just to celebrate NM's birthday. Nick is not the creator and/or Game Master of Jack Torrance. And that he is offstage at all times and will not show up unless prompted. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Unless Nick has god-tier foresight, a large enough budget to travel to Austin every so often, and is pulling a Abagnale level con, I don't think he is the guy behind the creation, and maintenance of the Jack Torrance channel.
It's just so unprofessional compared to his usual quality. I mean, we've gone from good, heavy scripting, in-depth analysis and easter egg hunts to him just kind of dumping a bunch of off-the-cuff livestream content on us, and it's just not as good.

But to watch Nick uncover all this cool stuff, and to then only have Nick be able to do anything is just not that interesting. You’ll see why I find ARGs so addictive. Nick doesn't get involved because he knows that it would disrespectful give his influence, and role as the analyst.
I will admit that this theory has a number of assumptions that are not based on solid fact, but I think that this is the likeliest explanation that doesn’t involve collaboration between Nick and Jack. In short, I believe that Nick's involvement with Jack Torrance was planned, as Nick's actions within Jack Torrance directly contradict his past statements and actions when it comes to being involved with ARG's and the likes of them. When Nick started investigating things on youtube he had nothing really. However, I find the execution of the idea to be, well, less than favorable.
In which case it's kind of sad that people are getting on his case about it now, if he really is using this as a way to have fun and recharge his creative batteries after coming out of a funk.
